2012

So the new year is upon us, it's like that fresh start everyone's looking forward to, a second chance at life. A new attempt to lose weight, make money, become a CEO, find the significant other, or whatever it is people are looking for these days.
It's a time to forget the past, to let go of it, bad relationships, getting fired or even erasing those criminal acts youve done like that time you set the school on fire.

Yes here it is. A time to forget all that and start over new. Although, keep in mind it may be the very last time you get a fresh start. For all we know it could be the end of the world. I mean judging on the weather lately, it does seem like global warming has hit an all time high. It doesn't seem like that could go on much longer.

Either way, for me personally, I'd like to imagine it may be the very last year I live, so I only have this year to visit the world, help out in the community and get my stupid license. * yes finally less than 2 months left*.

Whatever it is that you might want to acheive, well I wish you all the best in in getting there! And do enjoy it, for all you know it could be your last!

Thoughts of a busy mind

Sometimes in life you wish for something. You spend a huge portion of your life thinking about, praying for, wishing for that something. It takes you days, weeks, even years sometimes, wishing for one thing. Only one thing.

Then you realize what you have missed out on. You realize that all that time spent you didn't notice all the amazing things in your life, all those great things God gives you. You miss out on great experiences, and the worst thing is, when you take the most important things for granted because you're too blind to see what's important.

And sometimes, in special occasions, you get what you want. After you don't want it anymore.

So that's why you shouldn't wish for what you want. You should work for it. Invest your tears and sweat into it. Sacrifice what you have for it. But if you don't get it, don't give up, settle for a little less. And try again later.

That's why I have no expectations. No major dreams, I live each day. I settle for what I'm given and I never say no to any experiences. I have regrets, but they mean nothing.

Live each day as if it was your last. Give people around you a chance, be happy and accept what you have, and most importantly, say yes to everything. You never know, the best thing could be right infront of your nose!

Best friends FTW

Best friends are the best. They pick you up when you are down, they make you laugh when you least expect it, they have the ability to just hang with you all day doing absolutely nothing. You find them sleeping in your bed, eating from your fridge, BBQing in the back yard with your dad. They make friends with your parents and your parents like them more than your own self.

I had a friend come over all the way from across the globe, and for the first time in my life, I felt at home. She's like the bandage you put on a wound and it heals. The best thing is, how she knows me so well. Sometimes you forget yourself. That's when friends remind you of who you are.

They always say when you are in jail, friends bail you out, but best friends sit next to you in jail.. That's the kind my best friend is.

I wish that everyone in life finds someone like that. It's only then that life is truly complete.

Baghdad Summers

Sometimes when I can't sleep at night I would remember my grandma. We used to sleep over at my grandparents in the summer, my cousins and I would all gather up for a weekend there.

I remember we'd each grab a mattress and put it outside in the garden right next to the gardenia bush. And we'd keep it there till it was time for bed. Then we'd all fight for the spot infront of the AC to place our mattress, you see it gets pretty hot in the summer.
And when we'd put our heads on the pillow, it would smell like jasmin and gardenia.
To be honest, as cool as it gets infront of the AC, I used to always prefer to sleep near grandmas bed. My cousins live minutes away from grandma but I used to live in another continent. So that little time I had during those summers spent there, I would try and spend as much time as I could with grandma.
I remember there are days where my tears would roll down my face, and grandma always had the remedy to make it all well. She used to make the best food. She felt like it was her duty to feed us the yummiest food. Her food can mend a broken heart, put together a hurt soul and make everything better.
The best thing about grandma is right before she goes to bed, my cousins and I would all gather round her bed and she'd tell us a story, every night it was the same story and I'd never get tired of it. Ever.

Now that she's half way around the globe, all I can do is remember the memories and they keep me warm during the night. I would give my left kidney to be with her right now.

So if you have a grandma, and you can see her, if she lives with you or if she's minutes or hours away, give her a visit. Tell her you love and appreciate her. You are luckier than most people. And you should never take that for granted.

Live from the park.

The weather is amazing, its summer all over again, if you're reading this and you are inside, you need to be outside. Now. That is all. Thank you.

Kids.

I Have lost my writing touch. Have you ever noticed how the best writers are always crazy or psycho or depressed, its like in order to be able to write about ideas, you'd have to be emotional to the point where its a little too much. I can't say I'm emotional, so I guess that would make me a crap blogger by default.

So I saw two kids on the bus with their mom today, they were ever so polite, which made me think.. Maybe polite kids these days arent born into families, maybe they're ordered online. They come in shipments, with the receipts, incase you want to return them.. That would be cool.. It would make the world filled with lovely educated and polite children, you wont have to listen to them cry or scream.. But unfortunately it seems like only unfit people are becoming parents, families seem to subside and kids are becoming more and more ignorant due to their weak upbringing.

I guess it makes you wonder what type of kids youre going to have eh?

Nuite Blanche

I've been meaning to write about Nuite Blanche forever, but I never had the time, so here it goes.
I guess I'm one of the few lucky people in life who got to visit the infamous white night event of Toronto. It was one hell of a wild night. It seemed like people from all over the province happened to come together on that night, no joke. It was a night of never ending art shows, music shows, projects and unthinkable ideas.
The weather was freezing cold but hey you get so excited you dont even notice it.
I wish I can write about how amazing the art shows were but honestly, I only saw a few upclose. I'm a little embarrassed that I'm drawing out blanks when it comes to that night..
We danced the streets, jumped up and down, and we managed to squeeze into a group of clubbers clubbing outside because theyre no room inside the club itself, now that was the highlight of the night, we saw a group of circus-teers performing with fire, and alot more fun stuff.

The best about the night was the company, goofing around with your friends, getting continiously poked in the ribs with popeyes camera tripod while he was carrying it, having laughs, pushing each other in crowds, the whole " we're sober but act like we're drunk" theme. Yeah that was fun.

Also I must mention that we came home at 4 am, I fell asleep around 5, and went to work at 10 am. Like. A. Boss.

Be a yardstick of quality

-Some people arent used to an environment where excellence is expected - Steve Jobs

It was a sad day yesterday, while I was passing by the TV, Steve Jobs picture appears on the news, my dad looks at me and says " Oh look its the visionary Steve...DEAD??!?!". As he read the headlines, and you could tell from his face it wasn't a good one, I turned around stopped and stared at the tv. Reading the headline over and over and over... trying not to believe it, thinking its a prank, or they made a mistake. But no... sadly, one of the greats died yesterday, a day I can never forget.

Steve is was a living walking example of life. Sold into adoption, where his real parents didn't want him, yet achieving what no man has ever achieved. Going from nothing to something. Changing the face of the world with a simple vision. A man who never gave up till his body gave up on him, and even though that happened, he still lives on forever. A man whos intelligence is 30 years too young. He touched the lives of everyone.

First we lost Jack Layton, and now Steve Jobs, I wonder whos next? Why is it always the good people?

Jack, Steve, I salute you.

Saturday night ramblings

Everyone's been coming in to the pharmacy asking the same question, 'how do we get rid of a cold, and fast?'. Honestly, theres no medication on earth that can zap a common cold or the flu out of your body, if there was, we'd all know about it, you'd hear about it. Trust me.
So far everyone I know has the flu or is sick or half dead. Its a scary world living with so many infected people, it reminds me of the movie 28 days later, a zombie movie. Trying to get away so you'd not get infected by this virus.
I have a secret to not getting sick all winter, its been working well for the past 3 years, since I have discovered it, its ginger, oregano, honey and lemon. Not a huge surprise I know, but it works well. Ginger and Oregano have anti viral activity, honey is just awesome and lemons are filled with vitamin C and antioxidants. I drink it as a hot drink and as a cold drink. And it works wonders. So far I haven't gotten sick because of this magical concoction *knock on wood*.

So last Friday night it was raining, sorry, I meant to say we were attacked by a gruesome flood. I seriously can't imagine how so much water could pour out of a cloud. Probably the most rain I have lived through. Gladly enough, the rain managed to stop and it gave way to this amazing clear skies later on in the evening, just as I was out with friends. I like how people go out clubbing on Friday or go out to a bar or a lounge, yet my friends and I somehow almost always end up at Tim Hortons, talking about politics or weird ideas. Our version of clubbing is putting on loud house music while driving home at night.

In the end, the best night for me would be a night spent with family, watching a movie, eating noodles. Nothing can compare to that.

Best Voices in the Industry

So I've recently discovered an amazing find on youtube, apparently BBC has a radio, and on that radio they have a show called live lounge, where they get artists with awesome voices and they let them cover other songs, or do their own but with an acoustic feel.

I've been looking through alot of videos, discovering even more amazing voices. I've always had the weirdest taste in music I only listen to rock, weird stuff you've never heard off, but I've always valued talented artists with amazing voices.

The best way to find out how good a singer is, is when its live or acoustic, so I've compiled as many acoustics as I could, trying to find a song that's not the artists original to see how good they truly are, for example, we all know Teenage dirtbag, well world, I'd like you to meet Eddplant. He does the best cover I've ever heard of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akFkNOVoNR4

Panic At The Disco is a punk band. But I have no idea where they found Brendon, their lead singer. I was hooked onto their music because his voice pulls you deep. I'm trying to look for an acoustic version of a song, and here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuV1zXXF9zg&feature=related

Robert Smith of the band The Cure, a British band in the 1980s, now he's doing duets, here's a recent song, with Crystal Castles, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32udqal_lyQ.
I discovered Robert a few years ago when Blink 182 borrowed him for a song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnV0-dqfifM&feature=related I cant seem to find a video of him actually singing it... this fan made video will do.
Whats with Robert and his hair? Blimey...

A tribute to the ladies. This first time I heard this lady's voice, I was driving in the car, and it wasn't till I saw her on TV and watch her sing that I realized she's not black, she has this unique quality that I've never heard in a white woman before. Adele had blown me off my feet the same way Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston have. Here's her doing a cover of Cheryl Cole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czwlth4mx5Q
Amy Lee has one of the best voices I've heard, there's a rare copy of Amy covering Nirvana, not my favorite, so here's performing one of her songs, amazing abilities http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODavKwQi0RI

I like it when an artist covers a song for another artist and does it better, especially when they have an accent, like a English artist covering an american artist. Here's an amazing British band called The Kooks with a lead singer whos voice is like an angel, doing a cover of Gnarls Barkley. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDyO4yt45f4

Or, when the Arctic Monkeys lead Alex does a cover of Rihanna. Unfortunately, he brutally murdered the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9YL_zvdkLk&feature=related

Annnnd, of course... If you know Fight Club, 30 seconds to Mars, or Jared Leto, or if you're as a big fan as I am of this pure talent, genius uniqueness, and seductive voice, you'll enjoy this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ga_pr0vuHA
Theres just something about him...So I'll also post another acoustic song with Jared.. Just because its Jared. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7fH8_-cQpo

There must be a million amazing voices out there, I just picked out a few, rock related gals and fellows that I wanted to share. Sharing mood tonight. Seeing as how its 2 30 am and I have work tomorrow, I shall go to bed now.

Finally something to watch on TV

So far I've been waiting for this years new shows, and new seasons, and they're all here this September, well most of them.
I've watched How I met your mother's new episode, I'm so happy. They kicked the season off with Barney and Robyn dancing. And Robyn's new hairstyle looks so awesome.

My brother was kind enough to go down and get us some shawerma for dinner tonight. I ate it while watching a re-run of The play boy club, I missed it last night. I must say its an amazing pilot, definitely got me addicted, waiting for the next episodes, it was awesome to see Heff in there, its becoming more of a biography. Its always great when its vintage, the show is set in the early 60s, makes you feel like you're living in that era.

I'm glad I missed Glee today, but I also missed out on the new series Unforgettable.  I will be watching that later. Also new shows I'm looking forward to is Revenge, Charlies angels and Pan Am. Pan Am being another show that's set in the 50s. Just like Mad Men, which has lived up to expectations.

Project Runway anyone? I've always loved to sew, design, I love modeling, photography, anything that involves the fashion industry, so yeah project runway and Americas Next Top Model shall be on the list of shows to watch this season.

House will be on, even though I haven't watched neither season 6 nor season 7 so I'm going to be missing out on season 8. I'm also not looking forward to watching Desperate Housewives, even though its their last season. Its become too repetitive.

Other Shows I'm looking forward to,

Wednesday 21st sep
The middle
The X factor
Modern Family
ANTM

Thursday 22nd Sep
Big Bang Theory
Vampire Diaries

Sunday 25th Sep
The Simpsons
Desperate Housewives
Pan Am

Monday 26th Sep
Gossip Girl

Looking forward for feedback! :D

If you were an ice cream flavor, you'd be my favorite one

Theres something about ice cream I dont understand. I honestly think that on one winter day, with all the snowflakes falling, this little piece of icy goodness fell from heaven onto earth. And thats how people discovered it. This creamy almost chewy goodness with all those yummy flavors. I have never to this day tried a flavor I didnt like. They all taste like heaven. Heaven on a cone is what I'd like to call it.And it makes you happy. I dont know how but it does. I read somewhere that Ice cream can solve any problems, no matter how big they are. I'd like to believe that.  A friend (lets call him A) sent this picture to me.
The best thing about summer is ice cream, on a hot day, in the evening, at your favorite ice cream place, for me its Murphys over at Streetsville. That place makes the perfect summer Italian gelato. AKA heaven.

I tried to invade the best ice cream places in Toronto, with the help of my friend... P ( short for Popeye). And it was the best hunt I've ever been on. Its worth everything.

You know how people look for a sign from God? Sometimes they want to decide on something but theyre not sure. For me, a sign from God would be an ice cream truck.. or a kid with a scoop on a cone in his hand. Have you seen how kids go hand in hand with ice cream. It generates the most genuine smiles. A world without ice cream is a dead world.

Friday 16 September 2011

Lame jokes and awkward pauses.

You know its a good day when you wake up at 10 am, on a Friday, and its your day off. You take a shower, get ready, go downstairs and there's pizza in the fridge from last night, that for me is the best breakfast ever. Cold pizza almost tastes like heaven. You just know it cant get any better than that, and its true, the whole day seemed like a breeze on wards.
Weather is perfect, and I got all my work done before 2 pm!

There was an event at the university tonight, it went great, many people put a lot of time and effort to make it work, and it did, I was impressed. But tonight's event receives the awkwardness award of the year haha. It was meant to be a meet and greet, or as I like to call it meat and greet ( since all the food was meaty), and as all meet and greets, people get a little nervous. Look who's talking :P :P I probably was the most uncomfortable person there. So I get really nervous when I'm with people I don't know. Sue me!

But whats the best thing about this day is, I have pizza, pizza that I can keep in the fridge so I can eat it first thing tomorrow. How awesome is that?

Pens, Pills and Papers

Recently, I've read somewhere that the Pharmacy profession is one of the hardest profession to study. Like really? When did it become the art of mastering neurosurgery with garden shears?
All it really is, is this really complicated over rated multi-step process of handing a person medication. Where you'd have to check a zillion times that you've given exactly the same amount number of pills that the Dr. has prescribed because God forbid, you give one more or one less. But in all honesty, its all about the responsibility. I'd like to think that behind every Dr. is a pharmacist that saves his or her butt.

We study for ages, work really really hard, to get to this high standardized profession, yet in front of everyone else including my friends we're nothing more than legal drug dealers. Are you serious?

I envy all 9-5 jobs where you get to sit at a desk and file papers. We get to work 9 am to 9 pm or sometimes more, Saturdays AND Sundays, and whats worse than that, on Christmas day and on every human holiday. Sitting? Whats that? There isn't even a chair at the pharmacy.
No, its not that bad, I love it when people come in and ask us questions, makes us feel like Dr.'s. People would come in and ask us things like "Hi, I have a pimple, between my 4th and 5th toe *shows the pimple* its super itchy, can you recommend something?".... Have you tried soap and water?

But I love it, I wouldnt change it for the world, and its worth every bit of hardwork I put in, yeah its not perfect, but its great.

Summer is over, along with everything else

This was my status on Facebook. What does it mean? Honestly, it means nothing, I've changed alot this summer, and I feel like there will be things I shall be taking with me into the next year, somethings I shall leave behind. New year for me is the beginining of September of every year. Its when winter starts, and slowly it leads to summer, where the best is saved for the last. Now that this year is over, I feel like I have to change my goals on what I've wanted to accomplish.

Sometimes, when I'm walking down a street, or in a park, at night, I feel like at that very moment in life, I was meant to be walking down that very street, so I try and change something, instead of walking I would run, or twirl, in the street, or take my shoes off and walk barefoot feeling the damp grass with my toes, however I try and change the course, yet I still feel like thats exactly what I'm meant to be doing. Theres no limit to what you want to do, where you want to be, say what you want to say. I never let popular belief stop me, I always defied culture with what I believe in.

There were days where I used to bike on forever. When I was 10 there was a place I'd bike to, around the houses, up the street, all the way up the hill and down it, past the golf course, behind that country club, where the sea hits the white sands, where that shallow salty lake lies, miles away till my bike cant go up the ragged rocks anymore that's where I'd stop and sit, where I'd like to believe no one has ever been, silence, just the sound of the waves of the sea hitting the shore line. No one knew where I was, it was miles of rocks and sand on one side, and the sea on the other. No one knows where this place is. I'd be there for hours. I knew somewhere inside of me that if someone found me it wouldn't be good, that's how little girls disappear, or even worse, they'd tell my parents and I'd be grounded, well, thats what I thought at that time.
Ever since we moved (5 times now), that place has been thousands of miles away. And I still dream about it. I wonder if anyone ever goes there, or if anyone has ever stood in the same place I once stood.
The uninhabited intrigues me, its just a place to explore, an adventure waiting to happen.
Speaking of unpopular things, heres a unique under rated talent you could try listening to,

Attempt number 2

So I asked dad what he thinks makes a good blogger, he told me blogging is like cooking, or making dolma, it takes alot of contents to make good dolma, you need vegetables, spices, and many ingredients, as well as experience in cooking, otherwise the dolma wont turn out good. Blogging apparently is the same, its a manner of expression. Expressing thoughts, feelings, activities, events, so on, so it needs someone whose life is fruitful, filled with events and activities, and someone that's experienced, with good language potential, someone who can get the idea across in an articulate way.
In other words, I shouldn't blog. But I'm willing to take the chance because its what I love to do, and sometime you just have to stick to what you believe in.
I'm usually a cheerful person, but in all truth, only little things make me smile. This is one of them. The feeling of me dying any day leaving nothing behind terrifies me.
Friends are one of those things too. They give me the ability to lose complete control of myself and just act spontaneously without thinking of the consequences. Some of these friends, more than others. You don't have to be a good friend to be a special one.

My First Blog... Ever

So after many years, I have finally decided to put my daily activities in a blog. This is going to sound a little weird, but I have wanted to start one since I was a little girl. Write something that people can read and get to know me and get to know how I live better, something that could stay long after I'm gone. I just never had the time.

I honestly had a million thoughts run through my head, but now that my fingers are touching the keypad, my head is blank, I have no idea what to write about.

I've also decided to mention my friends in this blog, but I will be using fake initials, so that no one can legally prove who I'm talking about :P Which brings me to an important point, I hope this doesn't cause any trouble.

TIFF has started in Toronto, I've been told to keep my eyes open since celebrities will be walking around. But we all know I'm never this lucky. It took me a good 10 years to spot Brian from the Backstreetboys, long after I've stopped following them. But I did, and what was the best part, is I got to share it with people that were special to my heart. Now, if I knew back then that I would be standing with two friends when I get to see Brian, my life would have changed drastically.

Which also brings me to, sometimes you work really hard for things, and you never get them.. But then you realize, you get something completely different, unexpected, and much better than what you've been working for.

God works in mysterious ways I suppose.

I think I'll end my first blog now.
